Course Description

Whether you're a parent or teacher, it's tough knowing how to support neurodiverse children.

Being a parent of a neurodiverse child can certainly be a challenge. Often it’s hard to tell what’s going on for them and to know how to help them. It can be very frustrating.

And standard teacher training does not equip teachers to support neurodiverse children in the classroom. They can seem unruly and disruptive. It’s hard to know how to deal with them while taking care of your other students.

If you feel lost in how to support a neurodiverse child, it's not your fault. You simply haven't been given the information you need.

Whether a child is struggling with learning, attention, motor or behavior challenges, this course will give you new insights and understanding into their world and what is really going on for them.

You’ll receive practical advice on how to support them, not just to get by, but to thrive in school and in life.

During the course, you’ll be joined by other parents and teachers who are learning how to support the neurodiverse people in their lives. This provides a rich community of support for parents and teachers alike.

In the course, you will:

Become familiar with the basic concepts of HANDLE for supporting the development of neurodiverse children.

Understand how neurodiverse people experience stresses in their lives, which are often very different from things that would stress neuro-typical people. In fact, being able to recognize these unusual stressors is a key to understanding and supporting neurodiverse children.

Understand the impact these stressors can have on a child and how they affect behavior and learning.

Learn how to identify and manage the specific stress factors affecting a given child.

Learn how to recognize subtle signs of stress early, so that you can avoid crises - making life easier, for everyone!

Learn neurodevelopmental activities that reduce stress, enhance focus and support learning. These are activities that you can use at home and in the classroom.

Understand how environmental factors may cause stress. And learn how to manage those environmental factors to make life easier for the neurodiverse child.

In addition to receiving practical advice on how to support your own child, parents will receive guidance on how to explain what you learn to your child's teachers, so they can better support your child in the classroom.

Teachers will receive guidance on how to apply what they learn immediately in the classroom.
